Rockbot believes in the protection of copyright. Artists and songwriters deserve compensation for their creations. As a business using Rockbot as its sole music provider, your licensing is covered for ASCAP, BMI, SESAC & GMR.
Rockbot's licensing coverage is limited to music played through the Rockbot service. Use of records, live performers, a DJ, a mobile device, or any other music service, is not covered under Rockbot’s licensing.
If any of these agencies contact you requesting payment, please inform them that you are covered by your music provider, Rockbot. As always, you can contact us for more information.
NOTE: Rockbot licensing coverage is provided under our standard background music service. Enterprise, International (non-US/Canada), and Instructed Fitness customers may be subject to separate licensing agreements.
Can I play music in our facility using a personal music player or service?
Rockbot can only cover the licensing for music played via our service. If you plug in a personal music player or play CDs from a personal collection, you are required by US law to obtain PRO licenses for that music usage.
Do you cover the music licensing fees if we use a DJ or live music?
Rockbot can only cover the licensing for music played via our service. When using live music or DJ services in your business, you are required to pay the performing rights organizations (PROs) directly.
A sample ASCAP license for bars and restaurants can be found here. In addition to ASCAP, utilizing live music or DJ services requires paying BMI, SESAC & GMR, which have similar fees.
Do you cover the music licensing fees if we have karaoke?
No. Under US law, Karaoke usage is still considered a public performance. Rockbot and other background music services do not include coverage for karaoke. If you are using a karaoke service, be sure to confirm their licensing includes performance rights.
My question is not covered by the items above.
Send an email to licensing@rockbot.com. We’ll be happy to review your specific case and help answer your music licensing questions.
