Display Hours let you automatically control when your TVs and digital signage screens power on and off. Set a weekly schedule once and your displays will turn on when your business opens and off when it closes — no manual switching needed, and meaningful energy savings over time. Display Hours can be applied to a single zone or across many zones at once.
Note: Display Hours is only available on the Rockbot Player. This feature is not supported by Signage Sticks, Android TV, or other display solutions.
How Display Hours Work
When a Display Hours schedule is active on a zone, Rockbot sends a Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) command through the HDMI connection to power the display on or off at the scheduled times.
If your display or HDMI cable doesn't support CEC commands, the screen will switch to black instead of powering off. Black screen mode still provides significant energy savings — the display is no longer rendering content, just showing a blank output.
Where to Find Display Hours
Display Hours are managed from Settings & More > Display Hours tab. This tab is available at both the Group and Zone levels.
Schedules created at the Group level are available to all child groups and zones underneath it — useful for larger organizations that want to manage many locations using a shared set of schedules.
Note: The Admin role is required to create, edit, or apply Display Hours. If you don't see the Display Hours tab, contact your organization's administrator.
Creating and Managing Display Hours
Create a Schedule
Select + Create new to build a Display Hours schedule from scratch.
Apply a Schedule
From your Zone Dashboard, select a schedule to apply it to that zone.
To apply Display Hours to multiple zones at once, go to your Group Dashboard > Locations & Zones tab. Filter zones by TV or Digital Signage using the Views filters on the right. Once you've selected multiple zones, a Display Hours batch action becomes available.
Edit a Schedule
Select Edit next to any schedule. Note that schedules created at a higher level (Group) cannot be edited at a lower level (Zone), but can still be applied and used as-is. Any edits take effect immediately across all zones using that schedule.
Copy a Schedule
Select … → Make a copy to duplicate any visible schedule, regardless of whether it was created at the Group or Zone level. The copy can be edited at your current level. Zone assignments are not carried over.
Delete a Schedule
Select … → Delete. A schedule cannot be deleted while it is actively applied to any zones. You'll need to remove it from all zones and reassign those zones to a different schedule before deleting.
Schedule Options
Every Day vs. Individual Days Choose whether one schedule applies to all seven days, or set a unique schedule for each day individually.
Intervals Each day supports up to five on/off intervals. Each interval defines a start time (display turns on) and a stop time (display turns off).
Manual Playback If no intervals are set for a day, that day defaults to Manual Playback — the display must be turned on and off manually from the Dashboard or Remote App.
Manual Controls and Scheduled Intervals
Displays can always be turned on or off manually from the Dashboard or Remote App, provided your account has playback permissions.
Note: Manual control does not override the schedule. If you manually turn a display on or off, it will still follow the next scheduled interval. For example, if you manually turn a display off at 3pm but the schedule turns it on again at 5pm, it will power back on at 5pm automatically.
For zones with Rockbot TV, the Remote App can also control display power directly — not just TV playback. Remote App users can view the currently applied Display Hours schedule under Settings.
