| Quick Answer: Rockbot works with Samsung displays two ways: natively on select commercial Tizen models (Samsung QBC, QMC, QHC), or on any Samsung display — consumer or commercial — paired with an external Rockbot media player. Samsung’s own device-management software (MagicInfo or VXT) is separate from Rockbot and optional. |
This guide explains the difference between consumer and commercial Samsung displays, where Samsung’s MagicInfo and VXT software fit in, which devices run Rockbot’s app directly, and what you get with each deployment path.
Who this is for
Anyone deciding how to bring a Samsung display — new or existing, consumer or commercial — onto Rockbot, including operators comparing display options before a purchase and admins working with a display they already own.

1. Consumer vs. commercial Samsung displays
Samsung sells two different product lines, and the difference matters for a Rockbot setup:
• Consumer Samsung Smart TVs — the TVs sold at retail (Best Buy, Costco, Samsung’s consumer site). Rockbot treats these as a display screen only: Rockbot does not currently run natively on the Samsung Consumer Smart TV interface. It becomes Rockbot-ready once you pair it with an external media player (Section 4).
• Samsung commercial/Pro displays — panels sold through Samsung’s business channel (QBC, QMC, QHC, BE/BED-H, and others), built for always-on commercial use.
| Consumer Smart TV | Samsung Commercial Display | |
| Typical sizes | 32″–85″ | 43″–98″ (varies by series) |
| Brightness | Not rated for commercial viewing conditions | 300–700 nit depending on series (QBC 350, QMC 500, QHC 700) |
| Duty cycle | Built for a few hours of daily home use | Rated for 16/7 or 24/7 continuous operation |
| Warranty | Standard consumer warranty | Standard Samsung commercial warranty (longer coverage, business-use terms) |
| Firmware/software management | Consumer Samsung account, auto-updates | Managed via MagicInfo or VXT (Section 2) |
| Runs Rockbot directly? | No | Only specific models (Section 3) |
If you bought your display at a retail store, treat it as a display screen and pair it with an external player (Section 4). If it was purchased through Samsung’s commercial/business channel, check Section 3 to see if it can run Rockbot directly.
2. Samsung’s device software: MagicInfo and VXT
Commercial Samsung displays can run one of two Samsung platforms. Neither is required to run Rockbot, but you may see them referenced:
• MagicInfo — Samsung’s legacy on-premise content management system, over 12 years old. Requires a local server. End of sale: December 2026. Security patches end: December 2029.
• VXT (Visual eXperience Transformation) — Samsung’s cloud-native replacement for MagicInfo, launched 2024. Sold as a per-screen, per-year subscription. Requires Tizen 6.5 or higher — displays purchased 2022 or later.
How this relates to Rockbot: only one application can control a display’s output at a time. If Rockbot Digital Signage is running on your Tizen display, Samsung’s VXT content management can’t simultaneously manage that same screen. Rockbot does not currently offer remote device management for Tizen displays — no remote reboot, firmware updates, or screenshot capture, and there is no committed near-term roadmap to add it. If you want that kind of device-level control, Samsung’s separate Remote Management (RM) tier can run alongside Rockbot without conflict; ask your Samsung rep about VXT RM specifically, not VXT CMS.
3. Which Samsung devices run Rockbot directly
Rockbot’s Digital Signage and TV apps run directly on the display’s built-in chip — no external player needed — on these Samsung series only:
| Series | Nits | Duty cycle | Tizen version |
| QBC | 350 | 16/7 | 7.0 |
| QMC | 500 | 24/7 | 7.0 |
| QHC | 700 | 24/7 | 7.0 |
Not supported, even though they also run Tizen: the BE/BED-H series and QMB series, and no device running Tizen OS 4.5 or below is supported on any series. A higher Tizen version number doesn’t guarantee compatibility — check the specific model, not just the OS version. See “Is My Samsung Display Supported by Rockbot?” (Article 2) to look up your exact model.
Rockbot Music does not run on Tizen. If you want music in addition to signage/TV at a location with a Tizen display, pair it with a separate Rockbot audio device in the same zone (Section 5).
4. Using a Samsung display that doesn’t run Rockbot directly
Any Samsung display — consumer or commercial, any age — can run Rockbot by pairing it with an external media player connected via HDMI. The display’s built-in software becomes irrelevant; the external player is what Rockbot manages. This is the right path if:
• You have a consumer Samsung Smart TV
• You have an older commercial Samsung display, or one not listed in Section 3
• You’re standardizing multiple locations on one type of player regardless of display brand
Options: a BrightSign player (supports Music, Digital Signage, and TV from one box) or the Amazon Signage Stick (Digital Signage and TV). See “Setting Up Your Wired Player.”
5. What you get with each path
Always, regardless of path: one Rockbot Dashboard, one login, one support relationship.
| Capability | External media player | Direct Tizen app (QBC/QMC/QHC) |
| Music | Yes — via a supported audio player (BrightSign, Smart Amp, AU335, or Sonos) | Not supported — pair a separate audio device |
| Digital Signage + TV | Yes | Yes |
| Works on any display brand/age | Yes | No — QBC/QMC/QHC only |
| Break/fix | Swap the player; display stays mounted | Display itself needs replacement if the chip fails |
You can also blend paths across your account — some locations on a direct Tizen setup, others on an external player — since everything shows up in the same Rockbot Dashboard.
Not sure which setup is right for you?
If you’re not sure which path fits your locations, or you need help sourcing displays or an A/V installer, contact your Rockbot account rep or submit a Rockbot Request Ticket and a Rockbot team member will follow up.
FAQ
Do I need MagicInfo or VXT to use Rockbot on a Samsung display?
No. Both are optional Samsung platforms for Samsung’s own device management — Rockbot runs independently of either.
Can I run Rockbot Music on a Tizen display?
Not directly. Pair the Tizen display with a separate supported Rockbot audio device (BrightSign, Smart Amp, AU335, or Sonos) in the same zone for music.
Can I mix direct-Tizen displays and external-player setups on the same account?
Yes — every location shows up in the same Rockbot Dashboard regardless of which path it uses.
